![]() This is the fourth year SI Nottingham has awarded a prize to a student journalist for a 3rd year project looking at women’s issues in the media in line with their goal of enabling women and girls to achieve their potential. Members of Soroptimist International of Nottingham selected it as their top piece of journalism created by students at the Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism at Nottingham Trent University. STUDENT JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR AWARD 2016Īs part of her final year project, Nottingham Trent Broadcast Journalism student Candice Fernandez created an online feature that explored the different attitudes of Muslim women living in Britain and how they reconcile their faith with modern living. THE WINNER OF THE SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF NOTTINGHAM Also in the picture is Dr Emma Hemmingway of Nottingham Trent University. President Audrey presented the award to Charlotte when she returned to Nottingham for her graduation. The winner was Charlotte Bailey (no relation to Barbara), whose project ‘No Pain, no Gain’ concentrated on the problems of violence and perception experienced by the street workers of Nottingham. Barbara left a legacy to the club, and in 2014 we decided to create a Journalism Award for a student from Nottingham Trent University who produced the best programme on women’s issues. ![]() Commemorating Barbara’s 60 years as a Soroptimistīarbara Bailey was a much loved member of our club who celebrated more than 60 years as a Soroptimist.
